5 Good Reasons To Get A Dashcam

Dashcams have become the latest must-have driving gadget, allowing drivers to record their journeys.
Whilst initially expensive, the price of dashcams has fallen dramatically in recent years making them more affordable. As a result, many people are now able to take advantage of them. But what makes dashcams so great? Here are a few reasons as to why dashcams are more than just fun toys.

Capture every detail of a roadtrip

Ever been on an epic roadtrip and wished you were able to record it? Operating a camera whilst behind the wheel isn’t recommended – whilst you may be able to get a passenger to record the journey, this isn’t always an option if you’re travelling solo.

Having a dashcam allows you to record the sounds and sights of your journey, whilst keeping concentration on the road. This could allow you to relive a journey across the Golden Gate Bridge or an adventure through Death Valley. It could also be great for capturing those rare moments where something happens too fast for you to get out and film such as seeing a rare wild animal or driving past a funny sign.

Stay protected in a car accident

Dashcams can also keep you protected in the event of a car accident by providing hard evidence of what happened. This could be useful when making an insurance claim by showing that the other driver was at fault. It may also make it easier to find car accident attorneys who are ready to help if you need to make a legal claim – dashcam footage is some of the best legal proof you can have. As a result, dashcams can often be a good investment – you could end up making back the money spent on them by securing compensation more easily when you most deserve it.

Help catch criminals on the road

We’ve all encountered dangerous drivers on the road before. Whether it’s somebody severely speeding or someone displaying aggressive road rage, having dashcam footage could make it easier to report their behaviour to the authorities. You won’t have to write down their license plate number and you won’t have to worry about providing an accurate account as it will all be there recorded.

You may even be able to help police out with ongoing cases. There may even non-road related crimes that you’re able to solve such as catching footage of an incident at the side of the road.

Defend yourself against identity theft

Identity theft is a growing problem. Fraudsters are cloning number plates as a way of avoiding driving penalties. Many drivers are finding themselves victims of this behaviour and are getting charged parking tickets and speeding fines for crimes they didn’t commit. Having a dashcam could protect you by providing evidence that you weren’t driving in the area at that time – if you’ve been sent a parking fine for a car park on the other side of the country, but you’ve got evidence of you driving in your home state on that same day, it will show authorities that you couldn’t possibly be the driver that committed the crime.

Monitor other drivers using your car

This is something that is likely to appeal to parents who may be sharing their cars with their kids. If your child has just passed their test and you want to monitor their driving, a dashcam could provide the perfect way to do this. This could encourage them to drive carefully if you know from past experience that they can be a little reckless.
