Are you attending a baptism soon? If so, you’re probably wondering what you should wear. Whether you’re the father of the baby being baptized or just a guest, what you wear to a baptism matters.
After all, you don’t want to be underdressed on this special day.
But, finding the perfect baptism attire can sometimes be challenging. So, what should you wear to a baptism?
Check out this men’s style guide to learn what to wear to a baptism.
STICK WITH A SUIT
Regardless of the dress code or the location, wearing a suit is almost always a solid bet for a baptism ceremony. This is especially the case if the baptism is in a church or is a part of some religious ceremony.
Keep in mind that if the baptism isn’t super formal, you probably don’t need to wear a tie. But if you choose to wear a tie, choose something simple like a classic black tie. However, it can always be a good idea to wear one and then take it off later if you want to take the formality level down a notch.
And, while any color of suit will do (within reason), we definitely recommend wearing a navy suit. A navy suit is a refreshing change from a black suit, and since baptisms are a cause for celebration, it’s nice to wear a lighter color.
Also, speaking of lighter colors, we recommend pairing your navy suit with a patterned shit instead of a white one.

ADD A TOUCH OF PINK OR PASTEL
As we said, baptisms are celebratory ceremonies. This is why adding touches of color is usually a great idea.
If you’re looking to add some color to your baptism outfit, we suggest adding light pastel colors such as pink, yellow, blue, or green. Just make sure the color isn’t too bold, as this can take the attention away from the guest of honor: the baby!
If you want to add some color to your christening attire, I would suggest a cute little metal pin on the attire. Custom metal pins are a good choice, and you can customize them at Pins.US according to your favorite patterns. These pins are unique in design and feature a new pattern. Use them to decorate your christening attire to make your dressing style more unique!
You can add pastels to your look with a bow tie or a handkerchief. Or, you can pair a dark jacket with a light button-down shirt.
EXTRA TIPS TO KEEP IN MIND
When dressing for a baptism, always keep these extra tips in mind:
- Pay attention to the dress code. In general, the baptism invitations will give you all the info you need to know about the dress code. However, if you’re unsure you should check with family.
- If the event is a full religious ceremony, we suggest choosing a full suit over a blazer and chinos.
- Avoid black. While black is elegant, you don’t want to look like you’re dressed for a funeral.
- If you have a favorite tie, go for it. However, it’s usually okay to go without.
- You can get some unique belt buckles. Small belt buckles can also add points to your temperament and style.
- Remember, baptisms are joyous events, don’t be afraid to go lighter and brighter than normal.
