The classic suit is something that all men aspire to look good in, whether they want to admit it or not.
It’s the professional look, the look we rely on for those formal occasions, the look we want to nail on our biggest days. Yet, a lot of guys feel like they don’t look as good as they could in them. But is there something you could be doing to fix that? To put it simply: yes.
You’re not feeling comfortable
Believe it or not, suits should not feel uncomfortable. However, many men simply accept that they’re going to feel too tight, too stuffy, and too strict. Sure, they might not be built for cartwheeling and doing the splits, but if yours isn’t allowing for the mobility to relax and move freely, then you could be doing something wrong. For instance, if it feels particularly uncomfortable around the waist, try wearing suspenders instead of a belt.
You’re not wearing a suit that fits
Suits are designed to fit pretty much perfectly to the male form in order to accentuate the shoulders and preserve a tight, masculine physique. Some guys will fit the suits they can buy at any store just fine, but most men are going to benefit a lot more from some custom fit mens clothing. Try getting measured for a suit instead of buying one ready-made at the store to see the kind of difference it can make.
Know how to accessorize it
If you feel like you look a little bland in a suit, then it might be because you haven’t really finished the outfit, yet. Some guys suit the classic suit look with little else, but there are plenty of ways to accessorize a suit. You can wear some cufflinks, you can put on a watch, you can go for simpler options like a matching tie and a pocket square. Not all accessories have to be expensive, after all. You can even put on a watch like a chained pocket watch from Dalvey.
Work on yourself
While you don’t need to necessarily look bad, it’s a simple reality that suits tend to fit men who take care of themselves a little better. Like is said above, suits accent the naturally masculine part of your physique, including your shoulders and your chest. Having a gut can undermine that effect to some degree. As such, you might want to consider getting into fitness a little more before your next big occasion.
Stand up straight
How you carry yourself matters just as much as the kind of body you have as well. A well-fitted suit will help you maintain an upright look even if you’re posture isn’t great. However, if you want to look your best, then body language plays a big role as well. There are posture-correcting apps that can help you make sure that you’re standing up straight, which will help a great deal.
Pulling off a suited and booted look might not necessarily be easy but it is worth it. Hopefully, the tips above help restore some confidence in how you look when you’re dressed to the nines.
Thanks for reading and y’all stay dandy.
