We’ve watched the rise of the electric vehicle being reported on media sites for a while. Some myths that need to be busted when it comes to driving electric vehicles. But rather than focus on the negatives, it would be a great idea to talk about the wonderful benefits that come from switching from a gas powered vehicle to an electric one.
You don’t have to go out and buy a brand new Tesla, but whether you’re on the fence about purchasing your first electric vehicle or not, you do need to know the insurance and outs of what they require and why you should be driving one in the first place.
For example, the Sophtrans level 2 EV charger may be the best charger you buy for your EV, but if you don’t know why you should be driving one, it may feel like a useless purchase. Of course, electric vehicles are not for everybody. If you’re preferring to go out off-roading or traveling in a four wheel drive, then the electric vehicle probably won’t be for you. But let’s take a look at the benefits that everyone can take advantage of if you do decide to switch.
- They are fun and easy to drive. One of the main benefits of getting an electric vehicle is that they are so much fun to drive. Because they don’t have any combustion engine, they are as much smoother and quieter driving experience. It might take a short adjustment for you, but especially if you’ve not driven one before, but the instant torque and higher revving motors can mean electric vehicles don’t even need any gears. This results in this smooth and powerful acceleration and one that you can take advantage of.
- Features and functionality. If there’s one thing that you get with an electric vehicle over a gas powered one, it’s amazing features and functionality. A lot of electric vehicles include features that pre cool or heat the vehicle remotely during hot or cold weather. Imagine being able to hop into your preheated car with a nice toasty seat. Imagine even putting your hands on your steering wheel to find that it’s warm and ready for you to go. On hot days you are able to leave climate control running when you go to the shops or you’re sitting parked somewhere. The best part about doing this is you’re not going to be running an engine which is pumping out any toxic exhausts into your environment.
- It makes for a super quiet drive. Electric vehicles are very quiet, which means that if you want somewhere to enjoy music or podcasts or even conversations with other passengers while driving, you’re not fighting to be heard over the sound of the engine. You’ll still be able to hear the road or the wind noise on the highway, but electric vehicle manufacturers are increasingly aware of this, so they’re doing what they can to use specific tyres and acoustic laminated glass that makes their cabins inside the car even quieter than they were before. Electric vehicles are much quieter on the outside, which benefits others too, so near silent electric vehicles gliding past will mean that you just have to be more vigilant when you’re crossing the road.
- Super easy charging. If you have off-street parking at home or you have the ability to access a Power Point wherever you’re parking, then it should be very easy to keep yourself charged up. Charging is often the biggest concern for electric vehicle owners because they’re nervous that they’re not going to be able to get their car when they need to go without having to stop and charge it several times along the way. A standard PowerPoint may be sufficient to keep the car on the road, depending on where you’re driving. A higher powered wall box can fully charge most electric vehicles in no time at all.
- There’s so much extra space. Generally, electric vehicles are more spacious than their similarly sized combustion vehicles. This is especially the case for those based on dedicated electric vehicle platforms. You don’t have to worry about a gearbox or a transmission tunnel that eats into the middle of the car. So the front seats are way more roomy and the rear seats are bigger and more usable. A longer wheelbase in the electric vehicle can also help to create more interior space and a much bigger gap between the roads.
- They are so much cheaper to run. When it comes to charging your car, it can be cheap if you have access to off street parking on a regular basis. If you have a solar system or an off peak tariff you might pay as little as 5-10 dollars to charge your car, which is a huge difference between what you’d pay for gas.
