I had the chance to check out the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox FWD Premier 2.0T. We took it upstate for a lakeside getaway from the the city. Here’s what I thought of the Chevrolet Equinox!
FEATURES
Let’s talk about the cool features in the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. If you have an iPhone or Android device, you can take advantage of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which lets you connect your phone via USB to replace the stock dashboard.
OnStar is also available. Press it in case of an emergency and a live person will help you out. Flat tire? Accident? Push the OnStar button, and a human will speak to you through the intercom to help you out!
I feel this is way easier for a co-pilot to navigate when picking tunes for the road trip or navigating the map. The driver can use voice controls (Siri or Google Assistant) to change music and respond to calls or texts.
However, the stock dashboard includes a physical HVAC and radio buttons which complement the touchscreen controls and maintain a simple, easy to use and straightforward interface. The Equinox has a rear camera with a cool feature that creates an overhead image when pulling out. It uses the cameras around your car create a pretty accurate image of what it looks like above you so you can pull out or park with more confidence.
Another cool feature of the Chevrolet Equinox is the built in Wi-fi. On long trips, being able to pull out your laptop and get some work done is amazing. Also useful if you tend to lose cell signal or worried about spending your data on a long ride.
Need to charge your stuff? You’ll find 2 USB ports in the front and 2 in the back. You will also get a power socket in the back as well.
The Chevrolet Equinox FWD Premier 2.0T is designed to outperform the previous models by improving on areas which were considered a weak point in the earlier models. The car also includes revamped engine models. The base models is a 1.5-liter inline-four, turbocharged producing a whopping 170 horsepower sufficient enough for tackling daily tasks and challenges. There is an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine which replaces the 3.6-liter model.
It has a peppy turbo 4 cylinder that gives the car more capabilities and is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that is very smooth. The 2.0-liter engine has an output of 272 bhp at 5500 rpm and a torque of 260 lb-ft at 2500 rpm.
PERFORMANCE
The car steering is easy to use and smoothly navigates corners and fits well for freeway cruising. It can at times have an on-center play when making turns but this does not limit the car from faithfully responding and keeping the driver engaged. The car has a well-damped suspension which is also firm, making it possible to experience minimum cabin disturbances.
LOOKS AND STYLE
The Chevrolet Equinox FWD Premier 2.0T conveys a handsome look. Unlike the previous models, the 2018 model headlights do not encroach the hoods territory. The grille is wider and higher than before and it also features active shutters! The cars body side also have extra character lines and creases for a streamlined look with much-pronounced wheel arches than the previous models. The cars cargo floor is designed with additional space sufficient enough to fit smaller items.
