Many of us have an image of golfers wearing three-quarter trousers (plus fours), long socks and baker boy hats. Of course, nothing is stopping you sporting such attire if you so choose.
Although, many of us indulging in this hobby prefer a decidedly more modern approach to fashion on the Green. A topic you can find some suggestions on, below.
Bottoms
While a pair of tweed plus-fours can give you a very vintage look, a more modern approach to fashion on the golf course is to invest in some good quality khakis. The good news is that they certainly don’t have to be khaki in colour. In fact, it’s entirely possible to get away with some bold and bright hues on the course.
With that in mind, you may wish to consider bright reds, blue or even a busy argyle pattern. Although you will want to carefully choose the right top to match, as you will discover in our next section.
Also, a note on shoes is needed here. Traditional leather with metal spikes are one way to go. Although for the modern golfer specially designed golfing trainers by brands such as Nike, Puma, and Under Armor are a more on-trend and comfortable choice.
Tops
Avoid traditional shirts here and go for polo shirts with a collar instead. In fact, polo style shirts are the staple of any modern golfer wardrobe. The good news is that some pretty fashion-forward brands produce these items, including Fred Perry, and Lacoste.
Brights and bold can be acceptable here too, just be sure to balance what you are wearing with your bottom half. That means if you have a patterned shirt, plain pants are a better choice and visa-versa.
Equipment
It’s one thing to look the part, but to play a round or two, you also must have the right equipment. Of course, that means you need the right bag and clubs.
When it comes to your bag, it’s probably best to go for something understated like an all-black number. Then no matter what you choose to wear on the freeway, your outfit will work.
Clubs, on the other hand, are an entirely different matter. In fact, each type of club needs to be picked with care and attention to ensure you perform at your best.
Luckily, you can check out resources like this list of the best fairway woods to help you when making your decision. Something that will ensure your chances of hitting a birdie are just as high as your chances of looking fly on the Green.
Hats
Lastly, while golf is often seen as a somewhat sedate hobby, it’s important to remember that you can be out on the course, for hours at a time. That means it’s imperative to have some sort of head cover that protects your skin from the sun and also shield your eyes.
Fortunately, it is now perfectly acceptable to wear a baseball-style cap on the Green. You can even get some pretty natty golf versions to complete your look.
Thanks for reading and y’all stay dandy.
