How To Nail That Urban Look

The urban look is different in various areas of the country, around the world, and even within the same state.

Finding fun fitted hats Canada is not going to be the same in other parts of the country as it is in separate areas of the United States. The term Urban clothing is from younger individuals that are not required to dress in any type of professional attire as well as those in the rap and hip-hop arena of music.

To copy the most trending urban clothing styles, you can look to the large city’s urban population, the young generation. Some of the staples of urban clothing include tennis shoes, hoodies, and t-shirts. The variations are going to be determined by the geographical area as well as what is popular around the area.

Hoodies

It may seem as if hoodies have been around forever, but they are nearly 100 years old. They began as an item of clothing marketed to outdoor workers in early 1930 in the New York City area. If you think about it, it makes sense to keep the back of one’s neck warms in the wind and the cold of outdoor work in winter.

After outdoor workers, athletes were the next to be sold hoodies. Both high school and college athletes were making the hooded garment popular, some even sewing on their school’s mascot or letters.

From there, the hoodie became a staple of the music industry, especially in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s, graffiti artists, rappers, and skaters, aka skateboarders were all about the hoodie.

Now they are the symbol of urban wear.

Shoes

Urban shoes are typically sneakers, mostly flats, although some have a large bottom of several inches. Some are solid colors, most muted, nothing too flashy or neon. A few of the more popular urban shoes are going to be decorated with local graffiti, school colors, popular sports teams from the area, and anything local. They are worn mostly for show and would not be recommended for long walks or hiking.

Hats

Urban hats are generally knit beanies that are somewhat oversized in the back. This means they hug the head and ears for warmth, like a usual beanie hat, but have extra material in the back to sag. Both men and women wear this type of hat for the urban look. Other types are bucket hats, fedoras, beaded hats, and baseball caps. With the baseball caps, the logo, as well as the colors, are going to be what signifies it as an urban look.

T-Shirts

Especially during the summer months, t-shirts will be more prevalent than hoodies. The logos are more important than the colors and will be geographically appropriate like the rest of the urban clothing. Older t-shirts, concert t-shirts from years ago, as well as the local sports leagues are going to be the most popular among urban clothing wears for all ages.

When it comes to urban clothing, follow the trends of the bigger cities, like New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and St. Louis. Most of the items are going to be comfortable, but that is going to be secondary to the trend.
