There’s only one city in the U.S. that appears on the Traveler’s Best Trips 2020 list from National Geographic: Philadelphia. When you take a closer look at the city, it’s easy to see how it managed to earn its spot.
PHILLY’S HOTTEST NEIGHBORHOOD
Everywhere you look, you’ll find greenery, world-class restaurants, arts and culture, and many other wonders. The city also has a rich history. The history of the city can be traced all the way back to 1682, and there are many historic sites open to the public.
Fishtown is an excellent example of what Philadelphia has to offer. This neighborhood has seen quite a bit of growth in recent years. It’s long been at the center of the arts and music scene in Philly, and it’s also home to come of the city’s best-reviewed restaurants. When you’re in this neighborhood, you can enjoy a little of everything!
Fishtown has a history of being a working class neighborhood, and that’s something that can be seen when you explore its unusual narrow streets. In most of Philadelphia, streets follow a grid pattern, but that’s not the case here. This layout exists because the neighborhood was a major part of the Shad fishing industry. It’s also where the name of the neighborhood comes from. As you might expect, some of the top restaurants in the area serve seafood.
WHAT TO EAT IN FISHTOWN
Some of these restaurants have closed because of COVID-19, while others are only serving takeout. In spite of that, you’ll have no shortage of options when you’re looking to get a bit to eat. Cheu Fishtown, Suraya Restaurant, and St. Oner’s are just a few of the places that are offering takeout and delivery. From seafood to ramen to comfort food, you’ll always be able to have delicious meals delivered directly to you.
You may not be able to dine at all of the restaurants in Fishtown, but you will find also find plenty of greenery here. If you have an interest in history, and you want to see rolling lawns, take a trip to Penn Treaty Park. This park can be found along the banks of the Delaware River. Legend stats that Pennsylvania’s founder, William Penn, signed a treaty with the native Lenape people here back in 1683. The signing took place alongside an elm tree, which is unfortunately gone today. However, the park is still a lovely place to walk your dog or go for a picnic.
There are other parks in the area you can visit as well, such as Palmer Park and Konrad Square. Even though some things are closed down right now, you can still enjoy a lot of attractions outdoors. Don’t let restrictions keep you from having an amazing time when you visit Philly. If the weather is warm enough, you might want to go for a long walk so that you can see more of this historic neighborhood.
