Splitting the bill? Beer money? Paying the rent? When you’re out having fun with friends, it can be difficult to keep track of who owes who what or to make purchases for group activities such as concert or event tickets. Peer-to-peer payment Square Cash mean no more excuses.

What is square cash?

Square Cash is an app that lets you send or receive money and goes directly from or to a bank account linked to your debit card. Most payments deposit instantly. Since I work with a lot of freelancers, especially photographers, it’s been a great way to pay them.

How much money can you send with square cash?

1. Enter at least $1 and tap Pay or Request.
2. Add the name, $Cashtag, or mobile phone number of your recipient(s).
3. Enter an optional note, such as “beer money” or “making tons of content” in the For: field.
4. Tap Pay or Request in the top-right corner.
5. Your recipient(s) will receive an email or SMS notification letting them know you’ve sent cash!

Is Square Cash instant?

Square Cash offers instant deposits to your bank account. However, you can choose to keep funds in the Cash app. You can use it to send a new payment, or cash it out to your bank account at any time. This is very similar to Venmo or Paypal.

How Can I use Square Cash?

As I mentioned before, paying photographers I work with has been great. I also added my cashtag, $DandyInTheBronx, on invoices so brands have the option to pay me that way. Another use case is when you are at a restaurant with a group. Sometimes to avoid confusion or if someone really wants to get their credit card points, might want to pay for the whole thing and then have their friends send them money via an app. You can send your share of the check via Square Cash. There’s no account required to receive money so it’s perfect for people who don’t have the app yet.

Square Cash is also running a promotion right now in which you invite your friends and you’ll both get $10 when they send $50. Not sure how long that will go but it’s a great way to get your friends on the app. I really enjoy Square Cash’s minimal straight forward design. Square Cash also doesn’t include a social sharing element in its app if privacy is your thing. If you try it out, let me know what you think.
