Bling For Blokes: How To Wear Jewelry As A Man

The idea that men can’t wear jewelry is completely false. Men have worn jewelry for millennia and it’s a trend that has become even more popular in recent years. Of course, men’s jewelry is very different in style to women’s jewelry, and may be better suited to different occasions. This post delves into some of the different types of men’s jewelry and how to successfully pull each of them off.

Watches

Watches are the most quintessential item of jewelry that a man can own. Men’s watches are typically worn on the left wrist (although if you’re left-handed, you may prefer to wear one on your right arm). They are chunkier in appearance than women’s watches and can have a leather or metal strap. Some of the most luxurious brands include Rolex and Patek Philippe, however you don’t have to own a luxury watch to make a statement – there are many cheaper watches out there that can make you appear equally sophisticated and organised.

Bracelets

Bracelets can add flair to an outfit. Leather and rope bracelets can go great with casual clothing, while metal bracelets are excellent for complementing formal attire. You can keep bracelets minimal by sticking a single plain bracelet. Alternatively, you can layer up bracelets made from different materials. Just be careful not to overdo it.

Necklaces

Men can also wear necklaces. From dog tags to crosses to simple chains, there are many styles of necklaces to choose from. Getting the size of the necklace right is important – you don’t want it to hang too low or be too short. You can wear a necklace over the top of a t-shirt or tuck it into a buttoned shirt. As with bracelets, you can layer different styles of necklaces (this can look when layering necklaces of different lengths), but should be careful of going overboard as the result could look messy.

Earrings

There are also many earrings for men from cross pendants to studs. These can be another cool accessory to play around with if you’ve got one or both of your ears pierced. Earrings are not always accepted in some workplaces, but attitudes are changing. In many formal settings, it may be best to stick to minimal options like basic studs. In more casual settings, you can feel more free to try larger and showier options to express your personality.

Rings

Rings are one of the more controversial jewelry items. Beyond a wedding ring, most men never wear rings. However, men definitely can wear all sorts of rings – including diamond engagement rings. Whereas slimmer and more dainty rings are favored by women, chunkier and thicker banded rings tend to be favored by men. Popular metals for men’s rings include silver, titanium and black tungsten. It’s best to only wear rings on your ring finger if it’s an engagement or wedding ring – otherwise consider rings for your middle finger, little finger or even your index finger. You can even buy rings for thumbs, if you’re looking for something less conventional.
