RULES WHEN WEARING A BELT
Remember that all rules are meant to be broken. Here are just some general rules for belts you can consider when you are first starting out. Today I’m featuring a belt I picked up from Nautica on Amazon!
Loose pants? Practically speaking, they serve a purpose. If your slacks are loose, a belt will keep them up!
Why a belt? If you aren’t wearing a made-to-measure or bespoke suit, your suit pants or jeans probably have belt loops. Belt loops without a belt at times could look odd, as if you forgot something in the morning as you were rushing out. That’s all the more noticeable if you’re wearing a tucked-in shirt.
Classic. While wearing a suit, a simple black or brown leather belt that matches your dress shoes is a classic look that anyone would appreciate. Definitely the easiest rule to follow.
Fun belt? A casual or novelty belt goes best with sneakers or a casual style shoe. A leather belt should be worn with a dress shoe. Also, if you are beginner, don’t mix black and brown accessories.

Pro tip. Don’t wear suspenders with your belt. Why? They both serve the same purpose and don’t keep your pants doubly up.
