Since the appearance of vaccinations against Covid-19, people have begun to feel more “normal” which includes traveling, both by car and via airplanes. However, the deadly virus is still around and everyone should be taking the same strict precautions during this time. Even if you are fully vaccinated, including a booster shot, you will need to continue to safeguard yourself and your family.
Before the pandemic, the airports were filled with travelers that may not have been the healthiest. People with colds, flu, and other illnesses traveled every day without concern to their fellow passengers. The majority of people are now more considerate, and the caretakers of the world’s airports are more conscious about cleaning protocols. But being safe when traveling is still an important way to protect yourself and your family against the Covid-19 virus.

Before Going to The Airport
Once your itinerary is set, you will need to plan your trip to the airport as a separate event from your destination. Pack a small airport bag with hand sanitizer, wet wipes, extra masks, and maybe plastic gloves. Even though most airports are implementing stricter cleaning protocols, there is still many germs that cover different surfaces.
At The Airport
Be mindful of what you touch, like door handles, water fountains, tables and chairs, and handrails. If you think about all the other people who touch these same surfaces every day and all day long, you will be careful not to touch them, wear gloves, or wash your hands more.
Try to keep your distance from other travelers, especially those who are not wearing masks. It is important to keep away from the crowds where the virus can spread easily. Wearing a face covering can help, but it is not foolproof. When standing in line, keep your luggage in front of you to add more space between you and the other person in line. When you are sitting and waiting at your gate, place your bags in the chairs between you and the other passengers waiting in the chairs as well.
While on The Plane
It is going to be impossible to keep your distance from other travelers while flying on an airplane. Most, if not all airlines have gone back to pre-Covid seating where there is now a full row. During the height of the pandemic, the airlines left a seat empty, which was helpful.
The best you can do is to keep your face mask or covering on at all times during the flight. It would be best not to speak to others as this is a simple way to spread the virus. Keep your hand sanitizer close and after touching the tray or something else, use it to keep your hands clean.
After The Flight
After you get to your destination, you should go to the restroom and wash your hands with soap and water. This will help better than the hand sanitizer to rid any lingering germs from your hands. You should also change into a new, clean mask.
Use common sense and the information learned at the beginning of the pandemic to remain safe while flying.
