When it comes to the kind of clothes you have in your closet, your style preference is always going to take center stage.
For example, if you’re the kind of guy who hates to wear a suit, but loves jeans and a t-shirt, this is likely the only type of clothing to be found in your closet, and visa-versa. However, it’s good to have a mix of items that can suit any occasion, so here are five pieces of clothing every guy should have in his closet, no matter what his style is.
Shirts
T-shirts are comfortable and can look great, but certain situations require a smart shirt. You might need it to wear to the office or for a job interview, or even to smarten up your appearance on a date to a nice restaurant. Even if you don’t like to wear crisp, button–down shirts all the time, have a few in your closet ready to go for the occasions that call for them.
Shoes
Everyone needs shoes, but how many pairs do you have? You don’t need a closet full of footwear, but you should have a least one pair of trainers (for casual wear and another pair for the gym if you like to work out); warmer winter boots for miserable weather; smart dress shoes to go with your suits for formal occasions or work; and a pair of comfortable walking boots for the times you might go hiking with friends or are in scenarios that require more robust footwear.
Jackets
Just like your shoes, you should have jackets for numerous occasions as well. Of course, you’ll need a thicker coat for colder seasons and climates, but as spring is just around the corner you might want to focus on lighter jackets at the moment. You can find plenty of designs to suit your style, including racer jackets, bomber jackets, or quilted options. You could even choose to wear a gilet instead for a different look if you prefer. There are some fantastic Men’s Linen Gilets that are great for smart/casual looks. Finally, be sure to invest in a smart jacket or coat for events that require you to make a bit of an effort.
Suit
Smart jackets and button-down shirts can be worn as part of a more laid-back outfit but will still make you look sleek and stylish. However, for events such as weddings, networking opportunities at work, or a big party with a formal dress code, a suit is exactly what you need. You might not be keen to wear one, but having at least one, good-quality suit in your closet is essential just in case you need it.
Smart/Casual Trousers
Finally, wearing jeans every day is fine, but consider investing in one or two pairs of smart/casual trousers to mix it up a bit. They will work a lot better if you’re going to a party or out for dinner and drinks in the evening, and you can wear them with a relaxed t-shirt without it looking odd.
Even if you’re not very interested in fashion trends as an individual, make sure you have these five items in your closet just so that you can dress for any occasion.
Thanks for reading and y’all stay dandy.
