With the end of 2019 fast approaching, the sporty types amongst us will start to reflect on our fitness achievements this year.

Did we get to the gym as much as we wanted? Did we improve our strength and hit our targets? Now’s the time to start making a plan for 2020 and think about the things we want to do better.

Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or not, sometimes the gym can become a bit monotonousness. Perhaps you’ve tried updating your gym guy wardrobe to motivate you, but it hasn’t done the trick! Instead of getting back to your regular regime of the weights and the treadmill, it could be a sweet change to try a sports team? It’s pretty easy to find at least a few good soccer teams or soccer meet-ups in most towns. Here come five great reasons to take up soccer in 2020.

CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH

Soccer is an excellent way to improve your cardiovascular health; you’ll run around 5 miles at least in any one game. With a combo of running, jogging and walking; soccer includes many of the benefits of interval training. You’ll get an intense workout and frequent switching of pace. During soccer, you’ll burn calories, reduce your blood pressure and strengthen your heart too.

MUSCLE TONING & STRENGTH

Playing soccer will help your body to build muscle mass as well as to tone up. During a game players use both upper and lower body strength which improves core strength overall. As you get older, core strength becomes more important to reduce your chances of obtaining injuries via day-to-day activities.

IMPROVE STAMINA

Practicing soccer allows players to increase their stamina with all that running; you’ll up your lung-capacity in a short space of time. After a month or so of playing soccer, you’ll notice that your running skills have improved and that you can keep up the pace. Cardio exercise is the fastest and most effective way to get endorphins flowing around your body which is beneficial for your mental health too.

BONE STRENGTH

Soccer is an excellent way to keep your bones strong which is even more critical as we age. It’s all too easy to get caught up in a regime of going from work to home and then sitting around watching Netflix! If you don’t put good exercise regimes in place now, you’ll notice that your body will start to feel the effects over time. To ward of those aches and pains in your bones, take to the field and get active!

If you’re serious about taking up soccer, you’ll want to get yourself the right kit. Spend a little time finding the right soccer boots for you and check out some nice new indoor soccer jerseys for your team. Like any form of high-intensity exercise, it can be a good idea to combine soccer with an occasional yoga practice. Yoga can help to relax your muscles plus improve flexibility and stop you from obtaining an injury.
