If there’s one thing that men struggle with compared to women, it’s accessorizing our outfits.
Women always seem to know what to add to a fit to make it look even better. With us, we might slap a watch and some shades on, and that’s it.
More specifically, we struggle when it comes to wearing jewelry – especially necklaces. Simply put, we don’t always know the right way to wear a necklace. So, here are three tips to help you out:
Think about the purpose of the necklace
What are you trying to do when you put your necklace on? Are you trying to draw all eyes to it? Is it one of the main focal points of your outfit? If this is the case, then you need to think about what you’ll wear with it. Usually, it’s smart to pair a big chain or a large pendant necklace with something plain. A plain black or white tee will work wonders here, letting your necklace stand out and draw the attention you’re hoping for.
On the other hand, if the purpose of the necklace is just to accessorize and not to detract from your outfit, you need to wear something a bit less obvious. I find that Cuban links are the ideal necklaces to wear when you just want something to compliment your outfit, rather than take all the attention for itself.
Consider the neckline of your top
What sort of neckline does your top have? Is it a rounded neck, a roll neck, a v-neck, etc? This is actually very important as it determines what necklaces will suit the style better. With rounded neck tops, you want to pick necklaces that are also somewhat rounded.
But, if you’re wearing a roll-neck top, you want a necklace that can drop down a bit lower and rest on your chest. It’s never usually a good idea to mix different necklines with different necklace styles. If you’re wearing a v-neck, your necklace needs a v-shaped chain. Otherwise, it can look a bit silly and out of place.
Understand the color combinations
Lastly, you need to think about the color combinations in your outfits. Specifically, what color necklace will go well with what you’re wearing? If you’re wearing some type of metal necklace, you’re usually going to choose between a silver or gold color. The key is to pick the right color to go with the other colors in your outfit. One very good tip is to look at the metals in other parts of your outfit – like your watch, bracelets, or even shoes. Ensure your necklaces matches them!
For other necklaces in different colors, you need to pick ones that go well with what you’re wearing. There are loads of resources out there to help you know which colors go well with one another. Once you understand this, it is easy to pair your necklace with your clothes.
