Ties are not one size fit all.
Back in high school my ties were 4 inches at the widest point. I didn’t think about it, I thought it was alright. Back then I only wore ties if I had to. Weddings and maybe graduations, that was it. I even kept my ties pre knotted! This kept going till about 2010.
As I became more conscious of the way I look, I looked at my ties. My huge, wrinkled, wide ties. After an hour of figuring out how to tie a proper knot, I looked at myself and saw a clown. How did I ever wear this? They were huge! In order to save some money I googled how to tailor ties. I found some guides and tried my best:
This was tough. It looked ok but I wasn’t happy with it. Just took at the back!
As I recall, I think it was someone on Instagram who mentioned SKINNYFATTIES. They tailored ties so I didn’t have to. They even included a cool little can with each tie. I had to try it out. I sent in two fat ties. The stripped tie was found at a church sale and the red tie was found at a Brooklyn flea market.
Four inches wide!
I asked for them to cut down to 2.5 inches.
To get started, you go to the website, select how many, and what size ties you want. You have to send your ties through the mail. You should note what size you want on each tie when you mail it in. If you don’t know what size you should get, your ties should be the same size as your blazer’s lapel. SKINNYFATTIES also has a guide if you aren’t sure.
After about two weeks I received my cans and was impress with the tailoring.
Do I recommend it?
Yes!
If you have fat/vintage ties that you really like this would be the perfect way modernize them. I like finding vintage ties and sending them to SKINNYFATTIES.
No!
Can be expensive if you have a lot of ties.
