SHOULD YOU TAKE YOUR CAR ON A ROAD TRIP?

One of the best things about going on a road trip is that you can go anytime you please.

Between making the decision to go and packing up the car, you probably only have a couple of hours before you are driving off into the sunset! Just make sure you have enough gas and you can get going.

Of course, depending on your car, you might prefer to hire another vehicle for your road trip. If you usually spend your time driving in the city, you might need a car with a higher suspension and a greater tolerance for mud! That said, a nano ceramic coating works pretty to protect the paint no matter which car it’s applied to.

So, should you take your own car or should you hire one instead?

TAKE YOUR OWN CAR

The main advantage of taking your own car is that you will be familiar with it and more than comfortable driving for long periods of time. Taking your car also means that you can literally step out of your front door and set off for your next destination within a few minutes and you don’t need to worry about the extra expense of hiring another vehicle, including insurance costs.

But this is where the positives dry up. Hiring a car is usually cheaper for thev simple reason that a long journey can seriously depreciate the value of your car. Adding so many miles can really put a dent in the value and lifespan of your vehicle. Furthermore, if you drive your car out to your destination, you will have to drive back, effectively doubling the length of most road trips.

HIRE A CAR

The downside of taking your usual car is that may not be suited to the kind of terrain you want to travel. With this in mind, it might be a better idea to hire a car more suited to the area you are going to travel in. Similarly, if you want to go on a longer road trip and want to pack in plenty of fun and food, you might prefer to hire a larger car than you are used to so that you can make the most of the boot space.

Hiring a car also means that you can make your road trip one way. This means that you could drive from coast to coast without having to worry about doing the drive all the way back. Instead, you could take a train or a flight to get home. Doing your trip this way will give you time to focus on the stuff you really want to see without having to compromise to leave time for the journey back.

Most people prefer to hire a car as it means that they aren’t worried about adding significant mileage and can try a different model for a change. But before you decide for yourself, it’s well worth doing the math to see what works out cheaper. Your decision is entirely up to you.
