MAKING A HEALTHY DIET PART OF WHO YOU ARE (RATHER THAN A SHORT-TERM FAD)

So many of us feel that a diet is something we do in the short-term.

Whether you are toning up for the summer or you need to lose a couple of pounds, learning to incorporate diet as a lifestyle choice rather than a passing thing is hard work for some people. But what can you do to make a healthy diet a part of your lifestyle rather than it being a fad?

 

SETTING REAL EXPECTATIONS

Having a healthy diet comes with many benefits, but you have to set yourself realistic expectations. You may think that you need to lose X amount within a certain amount of time, but is this beyond your remit right now? We have to remember that when we set expectations that it’s about making it realistic and achievable. Sometimes when we are trying to lose weight, it can be an all-or-nothing approach. But this is incredibly taxing on our body and our brain. This is why we’ve got to go in with a plan. Sometimes there can be problems that get in the way in terms of our lifestyle. For example, we are not able to cook healthy meals at home because we are out of the house a lot. But if you can find ways around these problems, this is going to minimize the damage. MONITORING YOUR PROGRESS

Another way to keep you on course is to measure your progress. Whether it’s in terms of an exercise program or a way of eating, logging everything that you eat or do into an app can help you stick to the plan. Everybody veers off course on occasion, but when you measure how far you’ve come, this will be one of the biggest motivators. 

 

Making diet a part of your lifestyle is the most important thing. When we think about hitting a certain target, our challenge isn’t over. It’s about maintaining or setting a new goal. But we have to remember that when we have a specific goal in place that we break these down into smaller tasks. When it comes to a healthy diet, it’s not about the temporary nature of it. It has to be a part of who you are.
