In a world that’s consumed by climate change and the need to be more eco-friendly, electric vehicles are gaining popularity. We’ve seen a huge increase in electric cars and motorcycles on the roads these days.
Initially, buying an EV seems like a very wise choice. Before you do this, it’s important to be aware of a few potential drawbacks. These things might not concern some of you, but they may be bigger problems for others. Being aware of them means you can take a step back and consider if an EV is a right choice at this moment in time.
Charging stations
Naturally, electric motorcycles or cars don’t refuel like traditional vehicles. You can’t take them to a gas station and fill them up at the pumps. Instead, you need to find charging stations. The good news is that more of these stations are being created all the time. Unfortunately, it still might be a problem for you right now. If your daily commute doesn’t take you to a charging station, there’s the fear that you’ll run out of juice before getting home to charge back up.
This will get better in the future, so perhaps it’s wise for some people to avoid getting an EV until the infrastructure is in place where they live.
A lack of noise
One strange thing about EVs is the lack of noise they produce. This can be a good thing, but it can also be pretty bad. Part of the joy of driving is hearing the lovely sound of your engine. It’s a particular benefit of riding a motorcycle; there’s something special about hearing that amazing sound. Look at places like txtoysales.com and imagine driving one of the Harley-Davidsons without hearing it – it ruins the whole experience. It’s the same for cars, and some people might not care about this one bit. For others, perhaps you’ll wait until there’s the technology that mimics engine sounds.
Also, one other issue is that a lack of noise increases the noise inside the vehicle. You’re driving on the highway and can hear EVERYTHING outside. This can be really bad if you have young kids in the car as it can make them upset. Again, maybe you should wait until EVs are developed with better soundproofing if this is a problem for you.
Expensive
Yep, a pretty simple statement. Electric vehicles are generally more expensive right now due to a couple of things. Firstly, the demand for them can’t meet the supply, so prices are skyrocketing. Secondly, they cost a lot to manufacture because they’re packed full of neat technology. Thirdly, because they’re so new, it’s harder to find replacement parts, meaning maintenance costs can be higher.
It may be better for some people to wait until EVs come down in price – or there are lots of decent used options on the market at better prices.
As mentioned, these concerns might not affect you in any way. You could read them and decide that they’re not big deals at all. That’s great! You know you’re ready to get an electric vehicle. However, if the concerns do feel like big issues, then at least you know you’re not ready. Wait until your biggest problems are dealt with, and then you can get an EV.
Thanks for reading and y’all stay dandy.
