It was Mark Twain who famously said “Clothes make the man,” and this has never been more true than in society today.

Luxury outfits not only help to add sophistication and glamour to your wardrobe, but they say a lot about you as well. The world’s most expensive fashion labels and clothing brands are synonymous with power, wealth and status; they can only be afforded by a small percentage of the population.  In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at the world’s most expensive clothing brands.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Oscar de la Renta is by far the most expensive men’s fashion brand. While celebrities flaunt his designs on both red carpets and at Presidential inaugurations, the general consumer would need to take out multiple payday loans from an online lender to be able to afford an outfit. The brand rose to fame in the 1960s when de la Renta designed a number of outfits for First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, but a number of other celebrities have been seen in his designs; Alma Clooney, for example, had her wedding dress designed by him.

GUCCI

The Gucci brand was formed in 1920 and opened its first store a year later in 1921. Since the beginning, the brand has been known for its luxurious, well made designs, and although the brand originally began by making shoes and handbags, it now makes everything from clothes to accessories to luxury suitcases. One thing that we love about Gucci is that while their products are very fashion forward, they’re comfortable and practical as well.

LOUIS VUITTON

Arguably the most renowned name in the fashion world, Louis Vuitton makes everything from leather handbags to shoes, accessories, sunglasses and jewellery. Many celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie have named Louis Vuitton as their favourite fashion house, but the price of their goods far exceeds what most of us could afford. Some of the bags cost over £10,000, while their Tambour Monogram watches cost £20,000 minimum!

HERMES

One of the oldest brands on our list, Hermes was started in 1837 by French manufacturer Thierry Hermes. It specialises in jewellery, home furnishings, timepieces, perfumes, and leather bags. Some of the more retro items from the Hermes brand have reached high amounts at auction; the Birkin Bag, for example, was sold for over $200,000 in 2011.

CHANEL

Finally, this list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Chanel. Founded in 1909 by Coco Chanel, the brand has been synonymous with luxury for well over a century. While the Chanel suit and perfumes were what started the company, Chanel has adapted to fashion trends and always manages to release looks and accessories that meet the needs of their current audience. Perhaps their most expensive item is the Diamond Forever classic bag, which costs well over £200,000.

While most people can’t afford to buy the apparel or accessories of most brands on this list, there’s no denying that they make some gorgeous items that most of us would love to own.
