5 TIPS FOR SOLO TRAVEL

Traveling with friends or loved ones can be a great experience, but there is something to be said about solo travel. Whether you want to “find yourself” or simply go to a destination yet have no one to go with, it’s always a great idea to go on a solo trip at least once in your life.

If you’re new to the idea of solo travel and want to make sure to get it right, consider these following tips for a successful solo trip:

Save money on your flight

When traveling with friends, it’s easy to save money for lodging as you can share the expenses of the hotel room or vacation rental. However, when traveling alone, your accommodations will be pricier. If you want to stay at a great hotel or home, consider looking for low prices. Whether you find cheap flights to Cincinnati or low-priced tickets to London, there are ways to find tickets that won’t cost you an arm or a leg.

Let things flow

It can be great to plan ahead for the activities that you really want to do, but it’s wise to also let there be some downtime on your trip schedule. Flowing with serendipity on your solo trip allows you to experience new things and could make a difference between a stressed travel experience and a fun, relaxed trip. Stay open to meeting new people and strike up conversations. You never know where it could take you.

Adapt to the destination

A mistake some travelers make is that they try to bring their country to another. A great way to really enjoy a new culture is to open up to the culture. Adapt to the destination you’re traveling to. While you may do things a certain way where you live, sit back and appreciate the culture you’re experiencing. You can learn phrases in the local language to use while there and get out of your comfort zone. You could learn a thing or two or at the very least, enjoy seeing the way things are done in other places in the world.

Try new things

People think you can’t do activities while traveling alone or you can’t enjoy a meal out while going solo. The truth is that it can be even more enjoyable to appreciate a dinner alone in a new country or try a fun sport while on a solo trip.

Maybe you’ve held yourself back in the past because of traveling buddies. When traveling alone, it’s just you. You can do anything you want. Whether it’s eating a dish you would never typically try or enjoying a new activity, just give it a shot.

Stay safe

When traveling to a new destination, it’s important to be cautious as a solo traveler. People who are traveling alone tend to be more of a target for would-be criminals. Whether it’s pickpocketing you need to watch out for, stolen luggage, or even being roofied, it’s wise to enjoy yourself while keeping an eye out for potential harm. Additionally, if you’re planning to road trip by car, make sure to have your vehicle checked before heading out to avoid any issues along the way.
