October’s SprezzaBox had a lot of surprises. Inspired by Trinity Street, it had pieces that reminded me of Gordon Gekko of the 1987 film Wall Street. I took that idea and gave it a Dandy In The Bronx twist.
The typical rule in wearing tie bars, is to place it between the third and fourth buttons of your dress shirt. This is definitely true if you want to wear it and show your tie bar. However, sometimes I don’t want to show a tie bar but still needed it to keep my tie in place. Gordon Gekko has the right idea. He is wearing his tie bar near the bottom so that when he buttons up he jacket, you won’t see it. You can also do this if you are wearing a vest of a waist coat. Some schools of thought say that wearing a tie bar with a vest is “too much” or that the vest is already doing the job of holding your tie down. This is not the case for me as I still have my tie moving around under my vest. By wearing a tie bar lower, it will keep everything in place.
